One of the most important jobs we have as care managers at Grace Care Management is to find the best referrals for our clients to support their health care needs and goals. Working with many people diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, Minds in Motion (MIMO) is one of those programs we were excited to come across and introduce to you. Founded by Jim Paterniti and Lester Cohen, Minds in Motion is bringing education, support and empowerment to the local community and all free-of-charge. Both Jim and Lester were diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and so their program was designed through first hand experience, with a deep passion for helping others.
As care managers, we are always looking for the best therapies and professionals to help our clients. We have been interested in what used to be called “alternative medicine” for a very long time. It is now more often called “integrative medicine.” From massage and chiropractic to acupuncture and more, these “non-medical” interventions always seemed to address important aspects of our health that typically are overlooked or minimized in Western medicine. It is a wonderful shift that many health systems and health insurances are now recognizing the value of integrative medicine and complimentary alternative medicine, better known as “CAM.”
Grace Care is pleased to feature Dr. Michael Lobatz, M.D. of Scripps Encinitas Rehabilitation Center this month. We have been honored to work closely with Dr. Lobatz and his patients for many years. He is one of those physicians who because of a combination of intelligence and heart, brings a deep humanity to his work. Dr. Lobatz exemplifies what so many of us hope to find in a trusted medical professional.
We’ve paraphrased here the Physician’s Oath of Maimonides which he embodies so well: “Inspire me with the love for my art and for thy creatures. In the sufferer let me see only the human being.”
With the rise of chronic disease, prescription medications and an overly complicated medical system, functional medicine is becoming more and more sought after by patients seeking a more holistic approach to healing. Dr. Borrego’s approach to medical care is making a huge impact on the quality of life for many San Diego residents and so we are thrilled for the opportunity to introduce you to her practice.
Grace Care Management is pleased to highlight Neuropsychologist Dr. Mark McDonough this month. Neuropsychology is a special profession that focuses on brain functioning and can have significant outcomes for patients. We thank Dr. McDonough for taking the time to educate us about his practice and the benefits of neuropsychology. We hope you enjoy his interview!
This month Grace Care highlights one of our favorite doctors, Dr. Jeremy Fine from Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles. We’ve had the pleasure and privilege of working with Dr. Fine to serve our mutual clients since 2011. He is a true example of what we all want our doctor to be: available, compassionate, and someone who really takes the time to listen. Dr. Fine expanded to a concierge practice ten years ago so he can offer these things to his patients. We sat down with him recently to talk about his concierge practice and also to get advice on how to find the right doctor to fit your needs.
As a follow up to our recent article on innovations in dementia care, we thought it was the perfect time to introduce you to the Glenner Memory Care Centers. They are a 33-year-old organization serving family caregivers and loved ones with Alzheimer’s and other Memory Disorders. The Glenner Adult Day Programs and caregiver support groups offer another forward thinking solution to those needing care solutions. We sat down with Glenner’s CEO Anette Asher to bring you details on their care model, which is breaking new ground for those effected by dementia or Alzheimer’s.
Wounds unfortunately impact our frail elder population at large and seeking proper treatment with a skilled and experienced professional is imperative. When it come to our clients, Dr. Roger Schechter has always been our dedicated wound care specialist. After reading this interview it will be no surprise why. He is truly best-in-class and over the years we have witnessed just how much of a difference he can make in even a single visit. We thank Dr. Schechter for taking the time to help answer some important questions regarding his practice and wound care in this featured interview.
Grace Care Management works very closely with fiduciaries to be sure our clients have secured and well planned futures. We have had the pleasure of working with Susan Fox and Liberty Fiduciary Services directly and are pleased to feature her this month. In her interview, Susan shares more about fiduciaries and most importantly goes into detail about the Advance Health Care Directive, what it is and why it is so important to have in place.
As patient advocates, we are always looking for the best for our clients and are proud to introduce you to some of our most trusted associates each month. Thank you Susan for your time in educating our readers more about the valuable services you offer. We encourage you to reach out with any questions or if you need help getting important documents in place.
For this interview, we talked with the Director of Education Charlotte King-Mills, whom Grace Care has known as the friendly face behind many of the local San Diego educational events and programs. She has a true passion and calling for her work and it shows immediately upon meeting her. Charlotte has welcomed us with open arms into the Parkinson’s Association community and we are glad to be a part of the wonderful educational events and programs that she leads.
